Don Kirshner, Song Publisher, Dies January 17, 2011

Don Kirshner died of heart failure today, January 17, 2011 at the age of 76 in Boca Raton, Florida. Known as The Man With the Golden Ear, Kirshner was an American song publisher and rock producer who is best known for managing songwriters as well as successful bands, such as The Monkees and The Archies. Gardena High School - Shooting 2011

Two high school students were injured when a 9 mm Baretta handgun, brought to school by a student "for protection," accidentally fired when the backpack it was in was dropped on the ground or was bumped, according to recent news reports. One female student was shot in the head and is in "grave" condition. Another student was shot in the neck. Both were purportedly hit by the same bullet. (Trending News - January 18, 2011)

7.2 Magnitude Earhquake Hits Pakistan

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting that a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit South-Western Pakistan on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 20:23:26 UTC (local time Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 01:23:26 AM). The epicenter of the quake is 45 km (30 miles) W of Dalbandin, Pakistan -- 1035 km (640 miles) WSW of ISLAMABAD, Pakistan.

Robert Sargent Shriver, Jr. Dies at Age 95

Robert Sargent Shriver, Jr. died today at the age of 95. Born November 9, 1915, Shriver was married to Eunice Kennedy, the sister of John F. Kennedy. An American politician and activist, Shriver -- also known as R. Sargent Shriver or Sarge, was the driving force behind the creation of the Peace Corps, and as the Democratic Party's candidate for U.S. vice president in 1972.
