Fidel Castro Dead?
Officials are reportedly planning to announce the death of Cuban president Fidel Castro today. Reports of the Cuban leader's death have been circulating on the Internet repeatedly. However, media outlets have noted a huge upsurge in calls to their stations inquiring about Fidel Castro's condition, as he has not been seen in public for some time.
Much of the most recent speculation has been fueled by an announcement today by celebrity blogger, Perez Hilton. According to Hilton and other sources, South Florida law enforcement agencies are on alert, with large-scale mobilizations throughout Dade county.
As recently as today, while U.S. officials have acknowledged that the Castro's health has been reportedly failing, they report no specific information that his death is imminent. Miami residents may be hearing otherwise, as the city is hot with rumor's of the leader's death.
On Thursday, August 23, at the Forum for East Asia-Latin American Cooperation in Brazil, Cuba's Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque dismissed stories that Castro's health is failing.
