Don Adams aka Maxwell Smart Dies
Don Adams, the star of the 1960's hit Spy show, "Get Smart," died at the age of 82 on Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California of a lung infection. His hit show, "Get Smart" ran on NBC for several years starting in 1965, and for a year on CBS, for a total of 138 episodes. The show won seven Emmy Awards.
Born Donald James Yarmy on April 13, 1923, Adams dropped out of school in 1941, he served in World War II, and then worked as a drill instructor for the U.S. military.
Famous for his bumbling antics and his spy gadgets, such as his shoe phone, Don Adams' "very distinctive voice" was also featured as Tennessee Tuxedo from the "Underdog" show, and Inspector Gadget, in the cartoon version of the show.
