New Orlean: Red Cross Out, Guns Confiscated, Private Security In
While the red cross has not been allowed to enter the city of New Orleans with additional support, more and more private security firms, including the infamous North Carolina-based Blackwater Securtiy and the British company ArmorGroup International, have hundreds of armed security on the ground.
And while these private forces are allowed to be armed, according the the Washington Post, ordinary citizens are having their licensed firearms confiscated. The role and accountability of these forces, which have also been deployed extensively in Iraq, enters a murky area of the role of private, armed forces in areas of conflict.
